5 emerging artists from Asia and Europe will reflect on their 8-week virtual residency journey by sharing their learnings and challenges. As part of the Virtual Residency STOP. LOOK AHEAD. LOOK BACK. PROCEED. on Arts & Climate Change, ASEF and Casa Asia are organising a webinar on 25 October (1pm CEST), to meet the artists and the mentor and discuss on learnings and challenges of this online collaboration. The 2 groups of artists will also present their final collaborative project in response to the theme of Arts & Climate Change.

After 8 weeks of collaborative work in small groups, we have invited the 5 participating emerging artists from Spain, Indonesia, India, and China to share their experience, together with their mentor, Kamini Ramachandran, Director of MoonShadow Stories and The Storytelling Centre, Singapore. This conversation will focus on the process of collaborating and creating online and being able to negotiate the different artistic inclinations between artists from Asia and Europe towards one joint project. The artists will share the learnings and challenges they have faced over the 8-week programme and the value of working with the support of a mentor, throughout the residency period. They also will present their final creation.

A few words about the theme of the residency:

Climate change and global warming caused by human-induced degradation to our planet continue to be a persistent global concern. The climate crisis has been further intensified by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. In this context, the transversal role played by arts and culture has been increasingly recognised as an enabler of sustainable development projects with new narratives through creative practices. What is the place of culture in the climate change discourse and how can artists contribute to tackling this issue?
