This project is based on the exchange of teacher-student roles, where the primary and secondary school volunteers become the teachers of their parents, teaching Catalan, Spanish and computers.

“AFEX – We learn. Networking Families”, Casa Asia programme inspired by YEP Canada, won the 2018 Francesc Candel award, and since volunteering is a key part of the project, it has wanted to give the recognition volunteers deserve with this party.

The casal was filled with volunteers of all ages and from different backgrounds. They came from the various schools, neighborhoods and cities where the project is carried out: Besos, Trinitat Vella, Ciutat Vella, Sants-Montjuïc, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Badalona and Terrassa.

Accompanied by the coordinator, the facilitators of the programme and all the students in practice, they participated in different presentation dynamics, games and were able to meet the rest of the volunteers involved in the project.

Through the AFEX project, which has the support of the Barcelona Interculturality Programme of Barcelona City Council, Sants Secretariat, the City Council of the Sants-Montjuïc district, the Terrassa City Council, the Pakmir Association, the Chinese People’s Cultural Association and the Secretary of Immigration of the Generalitat de Catalunya, volunteers offer an opportunity for adults to get to know each other, building social ties while acquiring independence and empowerment for their day to day. The project will continue working and making it possible for learning to be bidirectional and enriching for everyone with this methodology.
