From the 24th of May the tickets will be put on sale of the new contest of Asian cinema of Barcelona: Casa Asia Film Week. The festival will be held between the 6th and the 8th of June at Casa Asia Headquarters (with free activities and screenings) and between the 9th and 12th at Girona Cinemas, and will present a varied cinematographic programme, with a total of 30 films, 11 of which compete at the official section.

Likewise, the lovers of the seventh art will find films that go from comedy to drama, going through science fiction, martial arts or Bollywood films. The films, mostly unknown and of recent production, are made by new and acknowledged directors, such as the case of the Hong Kong film-maker Ann Hui, who has been devoted a retrospective at this first edition.

The cinematography of Hong Kong will have a highlighted role at this first edition, thanks to the collaboration of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels. Two of the best Hong Kong productions of this year will serve to open and close the contest: the 9th of June, Reign of Assassin by John Woo and Chow-bin Su for the opening, and the 12th of June, The Stool Pigeon by Dante Lam, for the closing.

The ticket sale is limited to the 26 films that will be screened at the Girona Cinemas and at the three sections programmed: «Official Section» —where 11 Asian films of recent production will compete—, «Panorama» —with a selection of 6 films of the last two years— and «Retrospective», devoted to the director Ann Hui and made up of five of his best works. The tickets fo the two special sessions are also put on sale and are unknown in the big screen: the superproduction Space Battleship Yamato by the film-maker Takashi Yamakazi, granted by the distributor Mediatres Estudio and in tribute to Japan, and the preview of the Chinese film Confucio, interpreted by Chow Yun-Fat.

On the other hand, Portal Asia (between the 6th and the 8th of June at Casa Asia), will combine the screening of four films (among which, four Spanish documentaries made in Asia) with presentations, debates and lectures about cinema from this part of the world.

This week of Asian cinema is organised by Casa Asia and includes the programme of Ángel Sala and Mike Hostench of the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya, as well as the general coordination by Gloria Fernández and Enrique Garcelán of CineAsia. The contest is directed by Menene Gras Balaguer, responsible for the department of Culture and Exhibitions of Casa Asia.

The new film festival specialised in Asia would like to turn into an important cultural event addressed to spread the best cinematography produced in the Asian continent. This way, the festival takes the baton of the famous BAFF festival, which announced the closing of its doors in 2010. Casa Asia Film Week, as a festival specialised in Asian cinema, unique in the city of Barcelona, aims to become one of the best contests about this area of the world in Europe and in a meeting point with other festivals that have a clear Asian accent such as Cannes, Venice, San Sebastián, Berlinale, Locarno, Udine Far East Film Festival, Rotterdam, Cines del Sur de Granada, Las Palmas, SEMINCI and the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya.
