Annual event in which a large part of the State's academic community gathers to analyze the current state of undergraduate and postgraduate Asian studies taught by Spanish universities.
In 2019, the University of Malaga (UMA) hosted the seventh edition of the Asian Studies Meeting, and in addition to analyzing the state of the art of East Asian and South Asian studies, special emphasis was placed on Southeast Asia and its growing geopolitical importance.
In other editions, the main lines of work of research groups on Asia from these universities have been presented, and collaboration agreements have been signed, such as, for example, with Kobe University or the China Education Association for International Exchange.
Among other experts, Professor Won-ho Kim, Dean of the School of Area Studies, Hankuk University for Foreign Studies, in Seoul, Kiyomitsu Yui, executive director of the Center for European Studies of the Kobe University, or Rachel V. Harrison, president of the Center of South East Asian Studies, SOAS.
With this Asian Studies Meeting, Casa Asia aims to contribute to promoting academic, intellectual and university exchange between Asia and Spain. Likewise, develop and execute joint university collaboration projects between Asian and Spanish universities. Finally, have an offer of quality Asian studies that, on the one hand, fosters future professionals who are experts in Asia and, on the other, teachers who are experts in Asia.
