Strategic Vision for Spain in Asia 2018-2022

Yesterday the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Alfonso Dastis closed the event “Spain, Objective Asia 2018 - 2022” where the document “Strategic Vision for Spain in Asia 2018-2022” was presented and experiences and recommendations were collected of many of the Spanish economic, academic and cultural and social agents with projection in this continent, according to the Office of Diplomatic Information.

At this presentation, Minister Dastis has highlighted the fact that the Strategic Vision proposes intense cooperation between the Administration and the civil society to deepen into this path and promote our economic activity making the most of the boost and possibilities offered by this continent in a moment where the main countries are transforming their economic model and opening up to new forms of cooperation with Spain.

The event has included two panels where successful experiences have been shared of educators, companies and cultural agents that have turned to Asia and approached lessons for those who have begun to turn to Asia in Spain. At the first panel, directed by the Director of Real Instituto Elcano, Charles Powell, devoted to companies of engineering, energy and banking, the Vice President of Técnicas Reunidas, Manuel Valencia, has taken part and has recommended deep knowledge of Asian societies and the adaptation to the economic model of these countries, often different to the European. The following have also taken part: Communication Director of Gestamp, Miguel López - Quesada, Director of International Affairs of Acciona, José Eugenio Salarich and the representative of CaixaBank, Ángel Gil Gutierrez, to discuss the work their companies have been carrying out in the main markets of the region.

In a second block, director by Casa Asia Director, David Navarro, the successful experiences of educational, cultural and social agents have been displayed, with the backdrop of the increase of Asian tourism in our country the latest years and the development of Spain as an educational destination of growing interest for Asian students. At this panel the following have approached their work: representatives of El Corte Inglés, Javier Fernández, of Instituto de Empresa, Antonio Montes, President of Festival Sonar, Ventura Barba and the Director of Red Global de la Liga Española, Nicolás García-Hemme.

In his closing speech the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation has thanked everyone for their committment with this fundamental dimension of foreign action of Spain and has reminded that with the "Strategic Vision for Spain in Asia 2018-2022" the Government aspires to a new alliance with civil society that allows to project the economic activity in Spain and with a broader spreading of our culture, science and values.
