When there was only one week left for Asia Festival 2014 to begin, Casa Asia had to announce that the shows in closed venues had sold out their tickets. But there were still open-air shows that met expectations.

Given the mass attendance to concerts, at Àngels Square and at the Cathedral Avenue, Casa Asia, organiser of Asia Festival, calculates that around 12000 people attended the different shows: 12 international performances in 7 days and 9 different stages, including the concerts of "One day in Asia".

Results that Casa Asia values positively and thanks all the sponsors that have made it possible and the attending public that has enjoyed a Festival that will tour around several cities of Catalonia.

Out of this year's performances, we highlight the Beijing Opera of Guizhou, which opened the Asia Festival last Thursday, Indian Black Coffe by Mayookh Bhaumik who performed on Friday 19th of September and the concerts of Arif Lohar (Pakistan) and Kiwi & the Papaya Mangoes (Japan), which closed the Festival.

After great expectation through the posters around the Raval, advertisements in radios and newspapers in Urdu, great part of the Pakistani and Indian community of Barcelona had a date with the popular Pakistani folkloric singer at Àngels Square, who made his compatriots and Barcelona citizens dance to the rhythm of sounds that aime to transmit "peace and love through the universal language of music», according to the musician's words.

The Asian Contemporary and Classic Scenario, once again in Barcelona
As well as selling out tickets, having many followers and known by the fact it is free, the Asia Festival has become the window to the Asian artistic scenario, in its more traditional manifestations as well as contemporary and fusion arts.

Moreover, the Asia Festival still bets on programming for lovers of Asia, curious of the stage arts of this continent that is creative and for the Asian communities of the city. This way, social sectors that are more and more present and participative in Barcelona society took part in la Mercè.

The Asia Festival closes its 13th edition in Barcelona but is travelling from Saturday the 27th to other cities of Catalonia, with the purpose to spread stage arts of the continent beyond the capital and to offer a space for Asian artistic manifestations in the cultural programme of the country. For this reason, between September and October, the cities of Manresa, Vilafranca del Penedès, Vilanova i La Geltrú and Santa Coloma de Gramanet, will have the performances of this year's Asia Festival. This tour begins this Saturday in Manresa with the programme of workshop/demostration of Bhangra and Bollywood dance, given by Palwinder Nijar and the group Sher-e-Punjab.
