China goes beyond 538 million Internet users

The Chinese population connected to the Internet, which already was the biggest in the entire globe, has raised an 11% beating a new record, according to the Chinese Internet Networks Information Centre (CNNIC). 538 million mean a 39,88% on the total population of the country, the equivalent to the sum of the inhabitants in both Brazil and the USA. The rate means that 4 of every 10 citizens in the Asian giant area already regular users.

 

This record is due to the development in wireless networks that give more mobility and both faster and more efficient browsing, as announced by one of the most important firms of the sector. On the other hand, the navigation via mobile devices (phones and tablets) and is practised by 388 million Chinese and beats the 380 million that use desktop computers over the same total.

The CNNIC, responsible of this statistics, started as a non-profit organisation before being absorbed by the Chinese Information Ministry and provided the task to control the Internet in the state.

The recent government change promotes the Internet as a basic tool for establishing businesses or ensuring education. Although, at the same time the access to contents considered as subversive after noticing the great impact these had during the Arab Spring in countries like Egypt or Tunisia. Known ironically as "The Great Firewall", the access to Google searches such as the famous incident in Tiananmen Square is blocked inside the borders of China.

The number of users increase will boost in a big measure the presence of Chinese websites, online videos or blogs. This may mean someday a change in the aperture of this great country.
