Javier Parrondo Babarro, 41 year old career diplomat, is Casa Asia’s new Director General. The board of the institution, gathered this midday in Barcelona, has unanimously accepted his appointment. Javier Parrondo will replace David Navarro in charge of Casa Asia

Born in Madrid on the 12th of November 1977, he is a Law Graduate by University Carlos III of Madrid, and entered in the diplomacy corps in 2004. In August 2018 he was posted at the Embassy of Spain in Bangkok (Thailand). Previously, he was in charge of the Cooperation Department with the Arab World and Asia, within the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation to Development (AECID), collaborating with the design and execution of the Spanish policy of cooperation for development in North Africa, the Near East and Asia.

Casa Asia’s new Director was Deputy Consul at the Spanish Consulate General in Jerusalem, and previously he was appointed at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the United Nations, with headquarters in Geneva, and at the embassies of Hanoi (Vietnam) and Kabul (Afghanistan).

In Madrid he was worked in the cabinet of the State Secretary of Foreign Affairs for Iberoamerica and at the General Subdivision of the Near East.

Casa Asia’s Board, the highest management body of the institution, made up of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Generalitat of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council and Madrid City Council, welcomes the new Director General and thanks the task carried out by his predecessor, David Navarro, who held this position between July 2017 and July 2019.

With this appointment, Casa Asia continues strengthening its role as a reference and meeting point of the region of Asia and the Pacific in our country, with the main mission to contribute to a better knowledge and promotion of relations between both civil societies, within the institutional, economic, cultural and educational fields. Casa Asia’s headquarters is located in Barcelona and it has a centre in Madrid.
