The excursion was organized to put into practice the knowledge acquired during this course and to assess the students’ commitment to the project. Through the guided tour of the Historical Botanical Garden, students were able to enjoy an explanation of the different uses of the plants that were available and to be interested in new vocabulary. Later, they shared a meal with each other, where each one contributed a different dish, thus promoting a cultural exchange through food. Once the visit was over, they went to the MNAC, where they were able to enter the Oval Room of the museum and they were fascinated. Finally, they were able to observe the panoramic view of the city of Barcelona. With this experience, students were able to share a day outside of school and meet project participants from other neighborhoods.
Through the project, adult students have built social bonds, while gaining autonomy and empowerment for their day-to-day life through language learning and knowledge of the host society. This excursion allowed them to acquire new vocabulary and interact with people outside their environment. The project will continue making this type of activities possible, since they are very enriching for the students’ experience.
