Learning the languages of instruction here, getting to know better how the society they live in now works, and the Catalan education system helps especially the mothers, who are the majority in the program, and their sons and daughters, since in this way they can better support and monitor their educational progress, participating in tutoring and meetings in schools and institutes and finding out about resources that can help them in their learning.
The Aprendemos. Familias en Red (AFEX) program, which is carried out in educational centers where families from the Asian diaspora are the majority participants, is promoted by Casa Asia With the support of the Barcelona City Council, the city councils of Montcada i Reixac and Santa Coloma de Gramenet and the INS Rubió i Ors, it contributes to improving participation and communication between the participating educational centers of these municipalities and the migrant families of their students.
Teenage students from the same schools or nearby schools also participate, volunteering and teaching adults. Recognizing multilingual skills and exchanging cultural knowledge fosters learning and integration among families and contributes to the construction of multiple and complex identities, where it is not a matter of choosing between one or the other, but rather helps them feel rooted in the community and promotes social cohesion.
