The third edition of Casa Asia Film Week arrives with the best Asian films of the latest years

cafw 2015 2

A new edition of Casa Asia Film Week (CAFW) approache. The festival with the best recent Asian films, by Casa Asia and Cinemes Girona. The contest, which will be held between the 11th and 15th of November, will screen at cinema on c/ Girona, 175 in Barcelona around 50 films from 21 Asian countries.

The opening session of CAFW will take place with the film The Golden Era (Hong Kong, 2014) of the famous director Ann Hui, who recieved Casa Asia Film Week award for her career in 2011. After this film, there will be 5 consecutive days with more than 50 films, most from 2014 and 2015, which are distributed outside commercial circuits.

For the director of CAFW, Menene Gras “The festival does not only want to specialise in Asian cinematographies without distinction, but its purpose is a genre and narrative cinema, which is developed mainly adopting the drama format. The last objective, Gras adds, is to present a representative panorama of emergent cinema, which narrates with stage images of everyday life and conflicts that are common to Asian and Western societies.

Novelties-CAFW 2015

The greatest novelty of this edition lays in the extension of the number of selected films, most of which are 2014 and 2015 productions and in some cases they haven't been screened at any festival and they will debut in Spain. For the first time, countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia and New Zealand will take part in CAFW, as well as all those that already took part in last year's edition –Afghanistan, Australia, China, South Korea, the Philippines, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Nepal and Vietnam with their most recent cinematographies.

Iran is the country that takes part in CAFW with a greater number –ten films are presented this year-, although a part will be screened after the festival and are not in contest. Among the countries highlighted for their greater presence in this edition, we highlight Australia, China, Cambodia, South Korea and the Philippines.

Sections, Awards and Tickets - CAFW 2015

CAFW counts on three sections this year: the Official Section in contest where recently produced films will compete; the Panorama Section with a selection of the best Asian productions of the last 2 years, and the Special Section that compiles a selection of the most emergent cinema.

Two awards will be granted: Casa Asia Film Week Award to the best film, best director and best script and the Award of the Public, prizes that will be given by two juries: Jury of the Official Section in Contest and the Youth Jury. So, every jury will give 3 awards as well as the award of the public, which means, 7 awards in total.

General admission of 5€ whereas admission for students, members and season ticket holders of Cinemes Girona is 3 Euros. There is a season ticket for 10 sessions for 20 Euros and the ticket for all of the festival is 45 Euros. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or at http://cinemesgirona.cat

The direction of the contest is held by Menene Gras Balaguer (Casa Asia), whereas production is by Toni Espinosa (Cinemes Girona).

CAFW 2015 suggests a tour around all these Asian countries through the best films and it aspires not only to attract Asian film fans but also the general public.

The 3rd edition of Casa Asia Film Week counts on the collaboration of Turkish Airlines, Hong Kong Economic Trade Office, Japan Foundation, Hotel Capri, the Korean Cultural Centre and the embassies of the countries that take part in the festival.
