Course "India and the Taj Mahal: Art, Culture and History of the Great Mughal Emperors (1526-1857)"


Despite the fame of some monuments of Indian architecture, the history of builders, the great Mughal emperors is not well known. A tour of the cultural legacy of the famous dynasty, from Bâbûr to Bahadur Shah II, will make an introduction to the history. The saga of conquest of India, splendor and fall makes an interesting and fundamental chapter to the history of India.

Course by Víctor Pallejà de Bustinza, arabist and islamologist. Researcher and associate professor at UPF. He is an expert in Islamic thought and history of religions. Scholar and traveler, philologist in Arabic language, graduated from the Sorbonne (EPHE Vº). Researcher at the Avicenna Project European Research Council (ERC) and recently professor at the UPF. He has taught at the universities of New Haven, Universitat d'Alacant, Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. He has participated as an expert in dozens of international colloquiums of recent decades and has taught about two hundred lectures, and is a researcher on sufism (tasawwuf) and medieval thought. Knowing the Lulian tradition, he is a specialist in Ibn Arabi; he is translator of his "Illuminations of Mecca" (Siruela, 1996). He has traveled extensively and maintains regular contacts with traditional and intellectual teachers from Morocco to Tajikistan and India. He knows Asia Central and India, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, as well as Turkey, Iran Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
