Dhrupad Concert of the Gundecha Brothers

Concierto de Dhrupad de los Gundecha Brothers IMG2

For the first time in the country a Dhrupad concert by the Gundecha Brothers is presented. This band is within the best and most active exponents of Dhrupad singing, the most ancient vocal genre of classical Indian music.

The Gundecha Brothers have organised several international tours visiting more than 25 countries and counts on more than 36 published albums by national and international record labels. The Gundecha Brothers received the PadmaShri in 2012, one of the highest awards given by the Government of India, for its contribution to classical music of their country.

Dhrupad is the most ancient form of Hindustanic classical music that has survived until today in its original form. The nature of Dhrupad is spiritual and its research goes beyond entertaining, generating peaceful and contemplation feelings to who listens carefully. The word Dhrupad comes from dhruva, ‘firm evening star’ and pada, which literally means ‘step’, ‘track’ or ‘trace’ and, in this case, it makes reference to a kind of verse.

The concert is within the framework of the research project CompMusic, a project financed by the European Research Council and coordinated by the research group in Musical Technology of University Pompeu Fabra, which approaches several musics of the world from a technological perspective.

Parallelly the following complementary activities will be proposed:
