Exposición “Un jardín japonés: topografías del vacío”

Scenarios of what's beautiful and sad: Japanese Garden as text and landscape

This multidisciplinary proposal evolves around the fact that Japanese gardens can be considered the equivalent to a haiku in three dimensions, without stopping being a space of knowledge and representation of an archetypical world.

Gardens can be read as a text and can be interpreted as a landscape that is cyclically modified with the pass of seasons, changing their aspect when it rains or snows, when it gets dark o when days are longer. The sensorial experience, associated to garden contemplation, affects all senses, understanding that they simultaneously invoke natural phenomenon and sensitive experience to everyday life. We can't forget that in Japan gardes share aesthetic codes with calligraphy, literature, art and nature. From there the idealization of nature that, in its perfecto, is the model for the Japanese garden.

The event will consist on the presentation of the scenarios of what's beautiful and sad and its representation in the Japanese garde, by Menene Gras Balaguer; an introduction by Esther Pizarro to the exhibition project “A Japanese Garden: Topographies of Emptiness” and a description of the symbolic elements and characterise it, followed by a haiku reading by Hiroyuki Ueno and a performance by Shintaru Hirahara.
