Under the name of the Silk Road we know a network of land routes, as well as sea routes, that permanently connected for centuries the two ends of the Eurasian continent: China and the Mediterranean. Along the steppes, deserts and seas of the Silk Road there was a fruitful encounter between worlds that gave birth to great cultural centers such as Kashgar, Merv, Bukhara or Samarkand.
This course is a historical and cultural introduction to the Silk Road and the cities that were on it. We will study the different routes that existed, the way of traveling along them and the impressive cultures that flourished along the way. And we will also analyze the distant worldviews that were encountered on the trip, and how they accepted and recognized each other.
