Since 2004, the East-West Dialogue annually dates an important group of politicians, former Heads of State and Government, academics, representatives of Nongovernmental Organizations and of the civil society of the East and the West that work together to study the current challenges on a regional and local level, to exchange good practices and to get committed to the creation of policies.
The East-West Dialogue promotes a greater participation of Asia in intercultural dialogues and initiatives already existing in the West. At the same time, the Dialogue builds bridges between different communities, stimulates reflection and constructive dialogue, as well as mutual understanding, unity in diversity and joint actions for a sustainable development and world peace.
The Dialogue is strongly committed to the Millennium Development Goals, the Alliance of Civilizations of the United Nations and the National Plan for the Alliance of Civilizations. One of its priorities is to integrate the perspective of the Eastern and Western youth in debates. Moreover, every year gender equality and women empowerment are a key issue that is always present in debates and reflections.
The East-West Dialogue is organised by Casa Asia in collaboration with outstanding institutions such as UNESCO, Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), Club de Madrid, the Association for the United Nations in Spain (ANUE) and it includes the sponsorship of the Barcelona City Council and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID). The Dialogue continues with its mission to favour dialogue as a main tool for understanding among cultures, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.
