Alain Daniélou (1907-1994), essayist, musicologist, Sanskrit expert and philosopher, was professor at Banaras Hindu University from 1949 to 1953, honorary member of the French Institute of Indian Studies and director of the Adyar Library of Manuscripts, among others. His devotion to music earned him the management of the Institute for Comparative Music Studies of Berlin and Venice until 1977. Casa Asia Record Library is named after him in recognition to the donation he left the institution: 72 digitised CDs from coils that contained more than 50 hours of folk music recorded between 1950 and 1970 in countries such as India, Afghanistan, Iran or Thailand, among others. Today his legacy is one of the main sources of Asian music in Europe.
