The collaboration between Casa Asia and the National Office of Chinese Teaching as a Foreign Language (Hanban) approaches the creation of headquarters of the Confucius Institute in Madrid and Barcelona. The Confucius Institute of Madrid has been created thanks to the agreement between Hanban, Casa Asia and the University Autonomous of Madrid and the Confucius Institute of Barcelona is born as a result of the agreements between Hanban, the University of Foreign Studies of Beijing (http://www.bfsu.edu.cn), Casa Asia, the University of Barcelona (http://www.ub.edu/homeub/welcome.html) and the University Autonomous of Barcelona (http://www.uab.cat/).
In Spain, the Confucius Institute of Granada, jointly created by Hanban and the University of Granada (http://institutoconfucio.ugr.es/) and the Confucius Institute of Valencia, result of a collaboration between Hanban and the University of València (http://www.uv.es/confucio/indexsp.htm) also exist.
The Confucius Institutes have the commitment to approach the knowledge and understanding of China to the maximum number of people, mainly through the learning of Mandarin Chinese (with the preparation of courses and the call for official exams) and of several facets of cultural, social and economic life of this country, among others.
